Wow! I am still buzzing! I had such a fantastic time photographing the wonderful wedding of Amy & Mikey yesterday at The Boathouse at Cameron House Loch Lomond. I am still working on some of the images but had to share the first part of the day – The getting ready – with you all! I just couldn’t wait to blog it!

Oh my, I just got my shopping delivered and didn’t realize that this huge chicken I ordered to make some splendid lunch this coming Sunday will be out of date on Saturday. So I desperately needed help and so I googled ‘What would Delia do” and see what I have found:

Delicate November Light

There is something about the light in winter and especially the kind of winter we had last year. Hardly any rain but very cold with blue or grey skies. It’s a very beautiful, delicate light that I just love to photograph. On one of those brisk days in November the gorgeous Kirstie got hitched to her sweetheart Paul at Orocco Pier in South Queensferry. It was a small intimate wedding held on Kirstie’s late Grandfather’s birthday as an honour to him. Here is a selection of my favourite shots from the day.

Hearing and reading stories about how couples got engaged always makes me go weak at the knees. I am a total sucker for all things out of the ordinary romantic

So when I saw these cute stencils on Etsy I could hardly contain myself! What a wonderful idea. Just imagine, you have just woken up to the smell of a freshly made cup of coffee, your boyfriend or girlfriend brings you the cup to your bed, you yawn and stretch, reach for the mug and this is what you see:

HI-FI Weddings – musical inspirations for your wedding

Oh the joy – I was so excited when I came across this brilliant website HI-FI Weddings on my Sunday morning web venture and had to share it with you all. When me and hubby were planning our wedding last year one of the really important aspects for us was music. After all our wedding was going to be a very informal affair – a big party with all our friends and family and what makes or breaks a party? MUSIC! Took me months to come up with various playlists – hubby and I are both not into any ’soppy’ love songs but at the same time I was aware that the music had to cater for all age groups.

It’s a shame that only now, I find a website that is at hand with suggestions for out of the ordinary wedding songs. Hi-Fi Weddings really understands the importance of music at your wedding. From the song that you walk down the aisle to, until the very last dance they invite you to share your wedding playlist…or to gather ideas from other like-minded brides and grooms. And while they love music of all sounds and notes, they focus on wedding mixes that are less “Top 40″ and more music that is true to the soul.

DIY Wedding ideas

I have real admiration for couples who do a lot DIY for their wedding – all those little details carefully planned to make their special day even more memorable for their friends and family. It’s lovely to see those little personal touches and can save bags of money too.

I won’t forget the wedding of Peggy and Andy in 2008 for example, where they made colourful place cards and hung them into a tree and the guests had to go and find their card to know at which table they were going to sit. It was a real ice breaker for all the guests who didn’t know one another yet, and bags of fun too.

I also came across this lovely website Once Wed where you can find lots of great DIY ideas for your wedding and they even have instructions on how to make everything. Absolutely brilliant. Here are some of my favourite ideas, all images courtesy of Once Wed.

Getting ready photos – Yes or No?

One question that I think many Brides ask themselves is, should they have some photographs of getting ready on their wedding day. Many worry that in the morning, during the bridal preparations, they will be a nervous wreck and the last thing they’d want is for it to be captured on camera.I believe though that the getting ready photographs are a really important element to the reportage style of photography. It’s probably one of my favourite parts of a wedding day. The excitement that’s in the air is just wonderful. The look on the Bridesmaids and Mums face when they Bride is in her dress. The laughter and fun before the wedding starts. The little details. The champagne.

When you decide to have your photographer for the whole day you end up with a full documentation of the happiest day of your life. You look back at the photos in years to come and you remember the whole day from start to finish and that is priceless!
